No spring break at food shelves
Published on April 18, 2023
Spring break brings many working families back to food shelves to supplement breakfasts and lunches that kids get when they're in school For Michelle Christianson, the phrase "working poor" is not an abstract concept. About a year ago, her family began relying on a Catholic Charities food shelf in her neighborhood to supplement their meals. "Working families are feeling squeezed with gas and housing prices going up," said the Rev. John Estrem, CEO of Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis. "They need something to tide them over."
