Catholic Charities serves hope and a hot meal for Thanksgiving

More than 700 families had a chance to celebrate Thanksgiving with turkey and all the trimmings thanks to volunteers and Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. The annual event, now in its 59th year, helps some of the most vulnerable people who live in the Las Vegas valley.

On this day of giving, a holiday meal for those who might overwise do without. “We’ll probably feed about 250-300,” says Mike Dejong, Supervisory Chef with Catholic Charities kitchens. “We actually ended up with 34 (turkeys) this year, 20 to 23 pounders.”At Catholic Charities Dorothy Day Place, the kitchen was humming.
