A plan by Catholic Charities of Fairfield County to build 21 affordable units and the new headquarters for the nonprofit’s social services is under review by the city’s professional planning staff.

“There is a big need for affordable housing with more and more elderly in the Danbury area at risk of losing their housing due to rent increases,” said Michael Donoghue, executive director of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, referring to the nonprofit’s $9.5 million plan for the corner of Main Street and Elmwood Place.
