Published on May 22, 2025
In the winter of 2023, Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota opened a seasonal overflow shelter in collaboration with the Rochester Salvation Army to help people experiencing homelessness. After its decision to close for the season at the end of May, the organization’s executive director, John Meyers, weighed in on the site’s impact to the local community.
According to Meyers, Catholic Charities saw an increasing trend at the time of having to turn guests away due to its warming center’s limited space.
