New shelter opens ahead of homeless encampment set to vacate in Yreka

The city of Yreka has ordered the occupants of "Homeless Hill" to vacate by July 30 at noon. This comes as city crews prepare to clean up the area over the next month.

The city had posted a notice to vacate on July 16. Julianna Lucchesi, the city's assistant manager, explained the need for action, citing violations of public camping and property enforcement laws due to the lack of necessary permits.
